Congressman-elect Michael Baumgartner to serve as freshman class rep

SPOKANE, Wash. – will serve as the Freshman class representative to the Republican House Policy Committee during the upcoming legislative session.

Baumgartner’s office took a victory lap Tuesday, announcing his new role while inviting eastern Washington residents to join him at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

“I’m very much looking forward to helping craft and advance the policies that Republicans will put forward at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” Baumgartner said in an email to supporters and donors.

Baumgartner is assuming Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ office at a unique moment in national politics in which the Republican party is preparing to control every branch of government starting in January.

With the incoming administration already upending established democratic norms by announcing a and the nomination of a senator accused of sex trafficking as Attorney General, the first several months of the 119th US Congress are poised to be consequential.

Baumgartner promised to focus his first term in Congress on while Given his party’s imminent control of both chambers of the legislature, the presidency and the conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court, both of those priorities could be realized in 2025.
