Connecticut Republicans have again chosen Matt Corey as their candidate to take on U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat who is seeking a third term. Corey defeated Gerry Smith on Tuesday in the state’s Republican primary. Corey operates a restaurant at a golf course. He previously ran against Murphy in 2018, losing by 20 points. Smith is the top elected official in the town of Beacon Falls. Corey faces a tough task in trying to unseat Murphy. Connecticut voters have not elected a Republican to the Senate since the late Lowell P. Weicker in 1982.
