BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – An autopsy completed on Fri., April 26 by the Benton County Coroner’s Office revealed the cause of death for 17-year-old Angelica Santos and 31-year-old Amber Rodriguez, both victims of Elias Huizar.
Coroner William Leach said Santos, who was found dead on Mon., April 22 in Huizar’s home, was killed by multiple stab wounds.
Santos was the mother of one-year-old Roman Santos who was abducted by Huizar following the murders.
The cause of death for Rodriguez, a paraeducator at William Wiley Elementary School, was determined to be by multiple gunshot wounds. Rodriguez was the ex-wife of Huizar and was shot in front of the school on Monday.
Leach says the approximate time of both deaths has not been determined.
Huizar was facing charges for two rape charges from February and was supposed to be in court on the day of the shooting, though the hearing was stricken. As police were searching for Huizar, he was also charged with first degree murder and a national manhunt began.
The manhunt ended on I-5 near Eugene, Oregon where he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Roman was retrieved and brought back to his family safely.
