Coulee City delivery driver reflects on 40 years and over a million miles traveled

COULEE CITY, Wash. – The Coulee City Post Office has a delivery man who has spent the last 40 years driving the same route with excellence as they reflect on his many years of service.

Ronald Hughes began working at the USPS as a contract route delivery driver as a young man and has now traveled over a million miles on the same route.”I was young and laid off at the mill and needed steady income and permanent hours,” Hughes said.Over his million-mile journey, Hughes has never had an accident, prompting him to receive a national safety award.”I have built some very strong bonds with my people. I take pride and respect in my route, doing my job for as long as I have,” Hughes said.When he began, his parents owned the delivery route, and he took over ownership of it, taking care of his customers six days a week.His loyalty to his career and excellence standard landed him the National Safety Council (NSC) Million Mile Award.Hughes takes pride in his role and has dedicated over four decades to his community.
