KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Court documents have revealed more details about an .

According to the documents, an Idaho State Police (ISP) trooper responded Monday around 8 p.m. to reports of shots fired from a truck parked in the median near milepost 0.

The suspect, identified as Wyatt Armstrong, 23, was located by the trooper and arrested without incident. Upon finding Armstrong’s truck, the trooper observed an AR-style rifle and a pistol in the front seat. ISP said a rifle round had been fired into the vehicle’s radiator.

Court documents show that ISP troopers discovered bullet impacts on the pavement, indicating shots had been fired at a semi-truck and in the direction of the Post Falls Emergency Room.

Troopers interviewed Armstrong, noting that his eyes were bloodshot, watery, and glassy, and they could smell alcohol on his breath. Armstrong told police he had “a rough day at work” and planned to drive to Rosalia to take his own life. He said his car broke down, and he stopped in the median. Armstrong admitted to shooting a total of 42 rounds.

Witnesses at the scene told troopers they saw Armstrong shooting toward the semi-truck as it passed. No one was injured.

ISP transported Armstrong to the Kootenai County Jail, where he was booked on a felony charge of unlawful discharge of a firearm. He was also cited for first-degree DUI, exhibiting the use of a deadly weapon, and disturbing the peace.

Armstrong’s bond was set at $500,000.
