COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — CYT North Idaho is set to perform the popular musical “Newsies” in mid-November with a nearly sold-out show opening night.

Set in the late 1800s, “Newsies” follows the story of Jack Kelly, a newsboy and leader of a band of teenage “Newsies”. When publishing titans raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies “Newsies” across New York to fight the unfair conditions. This musical is known for its timeless message and nonstop lively scenes.

The “Newsies” cast will perform at The Midge & Pepper Smock Family Theater at the Kroc. The production opens on Nov. 15 and closes on Nov. 24. People can purchase tickets through CYT North Idaho’s website at Shows | CYT North Idaho. Tickets are $20 on their website and $22 at the door.

Based on the 1992 motion picture, “Newsies” was composed by Alan Menkin, who wrote the music for “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin.” The production is made possible by CYT cast, crew, and volunteers are working hard to put on a lively show.

“The cast has been working super hard and we’re really excited to perform,” said Ashley Cleveland, who plays Katherine in “Newsies.” “Everything is really coming together.”

CYT (Christian Youth Theater) is a community theater that provides classes and camps for youth ages 8 to 18. CYT performs a Fall, Winter, and Spring Broadway-style musical, and students participate either on stage or behind the scenes.
