Data breaches hit all-time high across Washington

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Data breaches have hit an unprecedented high in Washington State according to the Attorney General’s office.

Outgoing AG and announced the annual state data breach report Tuesday, which reported 11.6 million data breaches, compared to just 4.8 million the previous year.

Ransomware attacks were the most common type of breach according to the report, with 52% of cyberattacks involving ransom software.

The Attorney General’s office attributed the increase in data theft to mega breaches at Comcast and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
