NEWPORT, Wash. — One person is dead after a house fire Monday morning off Highway 2 near Newport.
According to South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue, fire crews responded to a reported house fire near Coyote Trail at around 9:40 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the house engulfed in flames and received reports that someone was trapped inside.
Fire crews said they stopped the fire within six minutes, but the victim was found dead after they entered the burned home. The victim’s identity has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing with local and federal authorities.
