Deer Park inventor finds new ways to fight fires

SPOKANE, Wash. – A local Deer Park man has invented a new tool to fight fires.

Jacob Schuler is the founder and CEO of his company Blaze Barrier, and he hopes his invention can offer a safe and more effective way to slow the travel of fires.

The Blaze Barrier is a chain of fire activated capsules that release retardant to slow and stop ground moving fires.

There is a Kickstarter for the product and people are able to pre-order the Blaze Barrier. Schuler plans to have the product ready to ship by Spring 2025.

The product is eco-friendly and also contains fertilizer to help promote regrowth to scorched areas.

“It took a lot of extra time and effort to make sure there’s no plastics and no metals,” Schuler said. “Everything in the Blaze Barrier is 100% biodegradable.”

Schuler says he developed this product after watching firefighters dig fire lines during the Park Fire in Chico, CA. He wanted to create a faster solution to spreading fires.

Schuler says he’s also working with Avista Development on the project.
