MOSES LAKE, Wash. – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is seeking animal cruelty charges for a neglected horse that had to be euthanized.

Police responded to the 1300 block of Road 10-Northeast and found the horse with protruding ribs and spine, sunken hips, hair falling out, pest damage, and overgrown hooves.

They discovered that the horse’s water source was filled with algae and it did not have any food.

After reviewing the evidence, deputies were granted a warrant to seize the horse and returned the next day to pick it up.

While trying to load the horse into the trailer, it collapsed and was transported to a local veterinarian.

The veterinarian found that the horse was extremely malnourished and had been neglected for what she estimated to be at least a year.

By recommendation of the veterinarian, the horse was euthanized as it couldn’t support its own weight.

Deputies are recommending charges of first-degree animal cruelty and other possible penalties to the Grant County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
