Disaster relief for wildfire recovery rolls out across Spokane County

SPOKANE, Wash.- Qualifying Spokane County residents who were affected by wildfires during the summer of 2023 can now apply for both FEMA disaster relief and low-interest loans from the US Small Business Administration.

Following a which opened Spokane county to funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, government agencies are coordinating to channel funding to the public.

FEMA funding, for which eligible Spokane residents can apply for now, comes in the form of a combination grant funding and loans.

Applications can be made online, and no one from the federal, state or local government will call an individual citizen to ask for their financial information to turn-in an application.

Small Business Administration assistance, which can be applied for here, comes in the form of federal disaster loans to rebuild structures destroyed during the 2023 wildfires which were not covered by insurance.

Other counties in eastern Washington are eligible for more limited federal assistance according to the administration.

The deadline to apply for assistance in repairing physical damage as a result of wildfires with the Small Business Administration closes April 20.
