STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – A dog helped a Stevens County deputy locate and rescue its owner.

According to a Facebook post from the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, on Sept. 25, a deputy patrolling a rural wooded area saw a dog sitting in the roadway. The deputy tried to coax the dog into his patrol car to find its owner, but the dog refused to enter.

Suspecting something was wrong, the deputy said they checked the surrounding homes within a mile but could not find the owner. He returned to the dog, which was now lying in the center of the road. When the deputy attempted to move the dog off the roadway, it bolted up an unmarked road. The deputy followed, and the dog led him to a small summer cabin.

While investigating the area, the deputy discovered an 84-year-old man lying on the ground a short distance from the cabin, calling for help. The man, who had several medical conditions requiring regular medication, had fallen and injured his leg. He had been on the ground for several hours, but thanks to the dog, he received medical attention and was ultimately safe.

The sheriff’s office reported that the 13-year-old rescue dog was credited with saving the man’s life that day, showcasing the loyalty and heroism of our furry companions.
