LAPWAI, Idaho – A dog narrowly escaped a fire inside a doghouse due to a space heater catching it on fire.
The Lapwai Fire Department Chief Bill Skiles said the fire broke out on 22522 Clearwater Court on Friday morning.
Chief Skiles said that straw on the floor of the doghouse is what sparked the fire. The dog inside managed to escape and no pets or firefighters were injured.
Crews were on scene for around an hour addressing the incident.
No animal rescue team was called to assist or investigate the incident.
Skiles wanted to remind Idaho residents the danger of using space heaters in the cold winter months. Small spaces need to be cleared of flammable items and leaving portable heaters on for an extended amount of time is not advisable.
