Don’t let rain dampen your Bloomsday run in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – Don’t let Bloomsday be “Gloomsday!” Rain showers are expected to hit during Bloomsday on Sunday, but that shouldn’t deter you from running.

To prepare for running in rainy weather, make sure you bring your water-repellent clothes. Fabrics like nylon, polyester blends or lightweight merino wool, as recommended by REI, will keep you warm even if they get wet. Fabrics like cotton tend to soak up water, becoming heavy and uncomfortable, especially during running.

Wearing a hat is also ideal to prevent water from dripping down your face and into your eyes, which can be uncomfortable. Another item that would be helpful is having a bag that protects your phone either a waterproof case or plastic bag.

Rain can also make the road or trail surface slippery or muddy, so it’s best to wear water-repellant shoes or shoes with good traction.

Also, to avoid getting sick, make sure to bring extra clothes with you after your race.
