SPOKANE, Wash. – The Downtown Spokane Partnership endorsed a increase in sales tax known as the proposition 1 “Community Safety Sales Tax,” appearing on the November ballot for City of Spokane voters.
“Spokane desperately needs resources—quickly—to improve safety for every Spokanite. Proposition 1 can provide immediate funding for the Spokane Police Department to significantly increase the number of police officers assigned to the Downtown Precinct and keep our community safe,” Emilie Cameron with DSP said.
The proposed sales tax increase of 1/10 of one percent is expected to generate funds for essential services for the Spokane Police and Fire Departments.
This increase would equate to $1.00 per $1,000.
The DSP has previously supported Spokane County Measure 1, which seeks to renew the Juvenile Detention Facilities and Jails Sales Tax for another decade.
