LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Two motorcyclists were injured after being struck by a driver who was reportedly under the influence.

According to a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Liberty Lake police responded to the crash on East Appleway Avenue at Spokane Bridge Road around 8:20 p.m. Thursday. The collision involved a minivan and two motorcycles.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene and provided care to the two adult female motorcyclists, who sustained potentially serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to the hospital for further treatment.

A Traffic Unit deputy investigated the incident and determined that the minivan driver was impaired at the time of the crash. Howland was arrested, and a search warrant was obtained to collect a blood sample for evidence testing.

Initial reports indicate that the driver’s van was traveling east on Spokane Bridge Road when he failed to negotiate the curve where Spokane Bridge Road meets Appleway Avenue. The van continued straight and collided with the westbound motorcycles.

The driver was transported to the Spokane County Jail and booked for vehicular assault.
