EPHRATA, Wash. – A man was arrested after running from police to an orchard and attempting to hide in an apple tree.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office say that Lopez Montes, 36, was driving at 2 a.m. when police tried to pull him over for speeding and suspicion of DUI.
As police approached Montes fled prompting a chase that ended at an apple orchard near the 2500 block of Martin Road Northwest.
Montes stopped his car and began running on foot into the orchard. Police used an infrared camera to locate Montes and found him hiding in an apple tree.
Montes was arrested and a breathalyzer showed his BAC was 0.19 which is more than twice the legal limit in Washington. He was booked into jail on investigation of DUI and felony eluding.
