POMEROY, Wash. — Evacuation orders for the Lower Granite Fire in Garfield County have been reduced.

The incident management team reported that evacuation orders have been downgraded to Levels 2 and 1.

The fire, which started on July 29 at around 12:15 p.m., spread eastward due to strong, gusty winds, threatening croplands, cattle, rangeland, and structures. Garfield County Fire District 1 initially responded, working with local farmers and ranchers to control the fire’s spread.

As the fire grew, additional resources were requested. The Washington State Patrol authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources, deploying four strike teams of district fire engines to assist in the response.
