Evacuations lifted for 1,500 acre wildfire near Kendrick

KENDRICK, Idaho – All evacuations for the Texas Fire burning east of Kendrick were lifted by the Latah County Sheriff’s Office Saturday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, all roads closed due to the fire were reopened at around 9:40 a.m.

The fire and grew to about 1,500 acres. It is 10% contained according to the Idaho Department of Lands (DOL).

As of 8:30 a.m. Saturday, most of the fire is no longer open flame but rather creeping heat.

“Yesterday, firefighters completed handline around the entire fire perimeter of the eastern spot fire. Mop-up operations continue around the fire’s edge with crews walking up to 200 feet interior to check for smoking debris or hot spots, such as ash pockets or smoldering roots,” the DOL said.

Firefighters will remove fire fuels in areas adjacent to the fire on Saturday and the DOL says that due to crews will be particularly alert over the next two days.

Evacuations: Level 3 Evacuations are still in effect for the Cedar Creek Canyon area. This includes houses on Parsley Dr., Linden Rd., Sister Ln., Elk Ln., and parts of Cedar Ridge Rd.
