JULIAETTA, Idaho – Evacuations for the Gwen Fire near the town of Juliaetta have been adjusted, allowing residents to return home.

The town of Juliaetta has been under Level 3 (Go Now) evacuations since July 26, but it has now been moved to a Level 2 (Be Ready) evacuation zone.

According to the Latah County Sheriff’s Office, the area has been opened for families to return, but residents are asked to remain aware of the fire situation.

“Thank you to the citizens of Juliaetta for your patience. We know it is unnerving and scary to have to evacuate your home, but we appreciate you allowing us time to assess the fire and determine when it is safest to return,” said the Latah County Sheriff’s Office.
