Evacuations lowered to Level 1 (be ready) for fire in Oroville

Updated Aug. 19 on 6:42 p.m. – OROVILLE, Wash. – Evacuations for the fire near Palmer Mountain Road and Charm Road were reduced to Level 1 (be ready) at around 6 p.m. Monday night.

The fire began around 2 p.m. and initially caused Level 3 evacuations. By later in the evening, forward progress on the fire had been halted with the fire 85% lined.

According to Okanogan County Emergency Management, the Washington Department of Natural Resources and local fire departments will continue fighting the flames later into Monday night.

Updated Aug. 19 at 4:45 p.m. – Additional level 1 (be ready) evacuations were ordered for the fire burning near Palmer Mountain Road and Charm Road.

According to county emergency management, the Charm Road Fire is burning northward toward Woods Road and Bench Road.

“Level 1 for persons on Eighme Road. Level 3 still in effect south of Eighme Road. Persons should be aware of their surroundings and take action if needed,” the county said.
