Explosion at Cardiff gas station injures two, fire still burning as investigation underway

CARDIFF, Idaho — A large explosion reportedly ignited a fire at a gas station in Cardiff, resulting in two people suffering severe injuries and being transported to a hospital by air ambulance.

According to Clearwater County officials, emergency services were dispatched around 3 p.m. on Wednesday to the Cardiff gas station located at Highway 11.

The two injured people were flown to a hospital with severe burns. Fire crews believe there may be additional victims still inside the structure. The fire is still burning, and it is uncertain when it will be fully extinguished.

The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the explosion and fire.
