SPOKANE, Wash. – Expo ‘74 was the first environmental World’s Fair, which meant visitors were treated to unique merchandise like the Green Thumb Garden Kit.

Spokane’s moment in the international spotlight as the smallest city ever to host a World’s Fair also spotlighted nature and conservation policy.

Gardening was a particularly important component of the Expo ‘74, which included garden showcases in line with the green theme.

Expo ‘74’s 50th anniversary celebrations will spotlight environmental issues, echoing the original moment in Lilac City history.
