NEW YORK (AP) — A progressive strategist who led Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ last presidential campaign is launching an eleventh-hour bid for Democratic National Committee chair. Faiz Shakir announced the move on Wednesday. Shakir says his party is ignoring the painful lessons of President-elect Donald Trump’s political success. He says Trump has delivered a more compelling message to working-class voters in some cases. Shakir has never run for office, and it’s unclear if has a legitimate chance to win. But his candidacy may reshape the conversation in a high-stakes election that has largely lacked major ideological or strategic differences. Democrats will vote on a new chair in less than three weeks.
