QUINCY, Wash. – The family of the 2-year-old boy who had his foot severed by a lawnmower at a daycare in Quincy recounts the incident and seeks support.

The 2-year-old boy was dropped off on June 24, at Rodriguez Daycare and his mother received a call from staff about ‘an emergency’ a few hours later.

The mother directed the daycare to contact the boy’s father as she was at work 45 minutes away and was not given details into the severity of the situation.

The daycare called a second time now informing the family the boy was at Quincy hospital but ‘could not’ provide details into why he was there.

While the boy’s mom was on her way to the hospital the doctor called her and asked her if she had any idea what had happened to her son. She told the doctor that the daycare would not provide her any details.

The doctor let the mother know that her son’s foot had been severed off and his leg and scrotum were also badly injured. The doctor advised that he be flown to Seattle to be treated immediately.

The boy and his mom were quickly transported to Harborview Hospital and hospital staff began treated his injuries.

The family is still in Seattle waiting for a much-needed skin graph in about 3 weeks.

The mother said that her 4-year-old daughter who was also at the daycare at the time witnessed the incident.

The mother described to NonStop Local the immense strain and difficulty this has been for their family.

“It’s been hell” the mother said, “we do have a GoFundMe going as we still need help paying bills and paying for food while dad and 11-year-old are in a nearby motel and our other two ages 4 and 7 stay with grandma.”

There is an online fundraiser for the family as they are navigating the temporary relocation to Seattle and not having the ability to work.

NonStop Local reached out to Rodriguez Daycare for a statement and have not heard back.

No arrests have been made in the incident, but the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families continue their investigation.
