MOSCOW, Idaho – The trial date for accused murderer Bryan Kohberger was set in a hearing on Thursday for June 2025 and for the families of the students that were killed, it felt like a step in the right direction.

One of the four victims in the murder was 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves. Her family has advocated and been fighting for justice in the case after over a year of no trial date.

After Thursday’s hearing solidifying this date, Kaylee’s family took to Facebook as they celebrate being one step closer to justice.

“It was a good day today. We were able to get a trial date set, and things appear to be moving forward. We are hopeful the trial stays in Latah County so as not to disrupt the scheduling order and we are praying for no more delays. We moved a little closer to justice today for Kaylee, Maddie, Xana and Ethan. Thank you again for all your support and prayers it means a lot to our family,” said the Goncalves.

Although the trial date is set for June, Kohberger’s defense team brought up the chance for delays during the hearing.

The Goncalves family noted they are still hopeful that the trial will remain in Latah County, despite the defense team’s adamant request for a change of venue.

In the hearing, lead defense attorney Anne Taylor, who is representing Kohberger, reminded the judge she will continue to defend her stance.

“I don’t want anyone thinking I’m agreeing to (a trial) in Latah County is all,” said Taylor.

The Goncalves family aren’t the only ones who are hopeful for the trial, as Judge John Judge concluded the hearing by stating that it was a “great step.”
