FDA proposes new front-of-package nutrition labels

UNITED STATES – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considering a change that could make nutrition labels more visible on food packages.

The FDA’s proposal suggests placing some nutrition information on the front of packaged foods. This new label would provide details about sodium, added sugar, and saturated fat content, indicating whether the levels of these nutrients are “low,” “medium,” or “high.”

The traditional nutrition label located on the back of products would remain unchanged. It would serve to complement the information displayed on the front.

The aim of this proposal is to help consumers make more informed choices about the foods they purchase.

This change could potentially impact how consumers view and select food products in grocery stores.
