SPOKANE, Wash. – Ferris High School’s Maia Siemers is set to showcase her dual talents at the Spokane Arena during the Rubber Chicken event. Siemers, a student-athlete, will be balancing her roles on the basketball court and the cheer team.
Ferris Saxons girls’ basketball coach Courtney Gray praised Siemers for her dedication.
“Getting those kids that wanna put the extra work in and wanna get better every day… those are hard to find and Maia is one of those ones,” Gray said.
Siemers has already participated in three games this year where she played basketball and cheered shortly after. Her routine involves a quick transition from the locker room to the cheer squad, ensuring she is ready to support the boys’ game.
On days without games, Siemers maintains a rigorous schedule. She often attends cheer practice before school, followed by a two-hour basketball practice after school, and then returns for another two-hour cheer practice.
Her passion for both sports is inspired by her family.
“I just have fun doing it and to be honest both of the sports have all my favorite people in it, so I feel like I’m not missing out on hanging out because I’m hanging out with my friends the whole time,” Siemers said.
Tickets for tonight’s game are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m.
