Ferry County eputies search for suspect in Republic burglary incident

REPUBLIC, Wash. — Ferry County deputies are seeking the public’s help in locating a burglary suspect.

According to the Ferry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a home burglary in the West Tessie Avenue area of Republic on the afternoon of Oct. 5.

Deputies said that the homeowner told them he had witnessed two men robbing an outbuilding and attempting to enter the home. While no items were taken, due to a quick response from nearby deputies, the suspects fled on foot just before law enforcement arrived according to the sheriff’s office.

Both suspects were identified through available security camera footage, and a 22-year-old male has been taken into custody.

The Sheriff’s Office is now asking for assistance in locating Billy Backus, 41, who is considered a person of interest in the case. Deputies believe he may be in the Republic area.
