MEAD, Wash. — A fire destroyed a home near Mead on Thursday, displacing the family.
According to a spokesperson from Spokane County Fire District 4, the fire was reported around 2:15 p.m. in the area of North Mount Carlton Road. Fire crews attempted to contain the flames, but the home was fully engulfed by the time they arrived.
Firefighters confirmed that the family was displaced and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. While most of the family’s pets have been accounted for, one cat remains missing.
Crews also noted that a working smoke alarm allowed the family to escape the fire unharmed.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, according to Spokane County Fire District 4.
