CHATTAROY, Wash. – Officials have confirmed the cause of the house fire that killed two on Saturday.

Assistant Fire Marshal, David LaChapelle, said the fire was caused by an electrical issue with an outlet on the exterior wall of the house. No working smoke alarms also contributed to the damage.

LaChapelle also explained the importance of smoke alarms in homes pointing to their role in preventing deaths.

Both victims died in the fire and the house sustained extensive damage.

The victims have been described as elderly, but their cause of death and identification have not been released.
