KAMIAH, Idaho – A firefighter in August is recovering in Colorado.

Justin Shaw was hit while firefighting in the Salmon River Ranger District, and initially flown to Lewiston.

After being treated briefly in Spokane, he was moved to Craig Hospital in Englewood to learn how to walk, eat and talk after his traumatic injury. His parents are happy with his progress.

“He is awake more, learning to walk, eat, and communicate – all part of recovering from his brain injury. Justin is working really hard each day, and his drive and determination leave his therapists with smiles after every session,” parents Joe and Dawn Shaw said.

The Shaw family thanked community members, PAM Health Speciality Hospital, and the JW Memorial Foundation for their assistance in helping Justin recuperate.

“Please continue to send prayers, supportive emails, and cards. Both Justin and his family really appreciate each and everyone who has helped them through this challenging time,” the parents said.
