CLARKSTON HEIGHTS, Wash. — No homes were damaged after Asotin County Fire quickly extinguished a grass fire on Sunday in Clarkston Heights.

According to Asotin County Fire District #1, crews from the Lewiston Fire Department and Asotin County Fire District #1 responded to a growing grass fire being pushed around the hillside below Stafford Court at 12:20 p.m. on May 19. The fire was growing and threatening a home in the Stafford Court area. The firefighters quickly got the fire under control before it damaged any houses.

The Asotin County Fire District #1 believes that the fire was started by someone who was smoking. There are no known injuries or damaged buildings.

“This springs growth of some grasses is significant, and when it dries out, the fuel will burn hot and fast,” said Chief Noel Hardin with the Asotin County Fire District #1. “The grass at the moment is still somewhat green, but wind and warm temperatures are quickly drying out fields and hillsides.”
