Emergency services were dispatched after a wind turbine caught fire.

Two fire engines were sent to Chulmleigh, Devon, where the turbine was well alight from its engine, at the top of the turbine, approximately 30 meters high.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service had to set up a cordon and waited for the owner to turn up.

After swiftly arriving on site, the owner was able to isolate the turbine – which was severely damaged by fire.

It has been reported the cause of the fire was accidental.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

The extent of the damage to the turbine and the subsequent impact on local energy supplies is still being evaluated.
