HAYDEN, Idaho – The Northern Lakes Fire Protection District responded to a house fire ignited by fireworks in the late evening of July 4th.

According to Northern Lakes Fire Protection District officials, firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 2700 block of West Ashland Lane around 11:15 p.m. last night. Upon arrival, fire crews found flames engulfing the home.

Due to the severity of the fire, a second alarm was issued, although some crews were unavailable as they were already tackling another fire in Coeur d’Alene.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, a portion of the roof collapsed, prompting crews inside the house to evacuate quickly. Subsequently, they transitioned to a defensive firefighting strategy upon confirming the absence of occupants or pets inside the home.

The Northern Lakes Fire Protection District reported that two or three neighbors attempted to contain the fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived.

Officials attributed the cause of the fire to fireworks, noting that the homeowners were away from the residence at the time of the incident.
