WASHINGTON – The first female director of the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) was named by the Secretary of the Treasury on March 25.
Patty Collins is now the 27th leader of the 162-year-old bureau.
Before serving as the leader of American currency production, Collins was the deputy director of the US Government Publishing Office.
Collins is also a combat veteran who spent time with US Army Joint Special Operations Command.
The BEP is a critical component of the international economy. It is in charge of printing American currency and works with the Federal Reserve to maintain the circulation of physical money throughout the US.
It is also the BEP’s responsibility to innovate new ways of preventing forgeries, and to redesign coins and cash.
Collins will work with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who appointed her to the role in late March.
