SPOKANE, Wash. — Five Spokane police officers sustained minor injuries while attempting to arrest suspects on Saturday.

The first incident occurred at around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 17 at a park in the 3100 block of East 27th Avenue, Lincoln Heights, during a community event according to the Spokane Police Department. Police were called to manage a disorderly woman who was yelling profanities at children. Despite efforts to calm her, she continued her outbursts.

Officers decided to detain her for disorderly conduct. She resisted, fought with multiple officers, kicked one in the head, and scratched him. She also spat in the face of another officer. It took several officers to arrest her. The officer who was kicked was examined at a hospital for a possible head injury but was cleared to return to work.

Patricia Schauman, 33, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and two counts of third-degree assault. Her bond is set at $3,500 ($2,500 related to this case).

Later that day, officers responded to a possible domestic violence situation near Liberty Park in the South Pittsburg area around 1:30 p.m. They developed probable cause to arrest a woman for fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) after learning she had hit a man, thrown rocks at him, and placed him in a chokehold.

During her detention, the woman bit one officer on the arm and kicked another. A third officer injured his back during the struggle. It required multiple officers to take her into custody. While in the back of a patrol car, the woman continued to thrash around, slamming her head on a partition and kicking a door. The officer with the back injury was unable to complete his shift.

The woman was booked into the Spokane County Jail on three counts of third-degree assault, resisting arrest, and one count of fourth-degree assault DV. Her bond is set at $5,000.
