BOISE, Idaho – Former Idaho Republican Party Executive Director Josh Whitworth has assumed leadership of the State Board of Education.

Idaho Governor Brad Little announced Whitworth’s appointment as the executive director of the Office of the State Board of Education on Tuesday.

“Whitworth has a proven track record of working effectively across broad stakeholder groups to implement important initiatives that improve the lives of the people we serve,” Little said.

Little’s focus on educational policy has included a ban on gender-affirming healthcare for Idaho youth and a ban on transgender people using the bathroom of their gender identity in schools.

Whitworth, a former Idaho University State football player, supported state initiatives which retained restrictions on collective bargaining for teachers in 2021 while leading the Idaho GOP.

For the past eight years, he has served as the Chief Deputy Controller in the State Controller’s Office.
