SPOKANE, Wash. – A former law enforcement officer was found guilty on Tue., May 14 on one count of attempted online enticement of a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington.

Court documents say 49-year-old Koby Don Williams had replied to a Craigslist ad in July 2022. The ad was an undercover operation to catch people that wanted to meet children for sex.

After the initial reply, Williams spoke to who he thought was a 13-year-old girl over the next three days. The two discussed the girl’s age, her supposed rates for sex acts, Williams’s employment and arrangements to meet for sex.

On July 26, 2022, court documents say Williams arrived at the Quality Inn in Othello to meet the girl. Instead, he was arrested with a search warrant finding Williams’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement badge, two bottles of medication used for sexual activities and $4,075 of cash in an envelope in his car.

“No one is above the law, and, as this case demonstrates, the U.S Attorney’s Office is fully committed to vigorously prosecuting those who target the most vulnerable members of our community,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “Mr. Williams’s conduct stands in stark contrast to the trust we place in federal law enforcement to keep Eastern Washington communities safe and strong. Our Assistant United States Attorneys, including AUSA Ann Wick, who tried this case, remain committed to upholding the integrity of our mission to protect and serve.”

Williams’s trial began on May 13, 2024. His sentencing is set for Aug. 14, 2024.
