Garland Theater’s iconic sign spinning for first time in decades

SPOKANE, Wash. – It has been a year of renewal for the Garland Theater in Spokane. After reopening under new ownership in March, the theater’s iconic sign is spinning again.

The Garland thanked the technician who got the sign moving via social media on Monday.

“As promised, we were able to get the sign turning again for the first time in decades! Thanks to our buddy Todd for making this happen,” the theater said.

According to the Spokane County Historic Preservation Office, the single-screen venue was constructed in 1945 as young men were returning to Spokane from fighting in World War Two, with the sign being installed that same decade.
