OLYMPIA, Wash.-With wildfire season already underway the Washington State Department of Ecology has declared June 10-14 as Smoke Ready Week.
Throughout the week Washington residents are encouraged to identify personal health risks, learn how to protect indoor air and know where to find the most up-to-date information about the location and intensity of wildfire smoke, according to Ecology.
Ecology will be presenting different themes on social media throughout #SmokeReady week to help people prepare for fires and smoke.
June 10: Learn about smoke. Wildfire smoke is a dangerous mix of carbon monoxide and particle pollution. Learn how smoke can enter your lungs and bloodstream and the health problems it can cause.June 11: Stay informed about smoke. Monitor air quality through Washington Smoke Information, Fire and Smoke Map and Washington’s Air Monitoring Network.June 12: Smoke and Your Health: Learn the symptoms of smoke exposure, including eye, nose and throat irritation, coughing, sore throat, headache, shortness of breath and heart attack.June 13: Learn how to minimize exposure to smoke by staying indoors when air quality is poor and keeping windows and doors shut and using HEPA air filters. If you must go outside limit physical activity and wear a KN95 mask.June 14: Prevent smoke. Obey all burn bans and fully extinguish fires and park cars on asphalt not dry grass.
