SPOKANE, Wash. – A global technology outage delayed or canceled over 3,000 flights worldwide, affecting Spokane International Airport and businesses across the region.
The outage, caused by a faulty update deployed by the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike to computers running Microsoft Windows, left a wake of confusion and frustration for workers and travelers at the Spokane International Airport on Friday.
“I’m very stressed, I’m very upset, I’m tired, hungry. It’ll be about 24 hours before I get home,” said Terry Haag in tears. Haag, a North Carolina resident, has been stuck in Spokane and just wants to get home.
Haag is just one of hundreds of frustrated travelers needing to get home.
Flight status boards at Spokane Airport have been changing all night and throughout the morning as airlines work to get people to their destinations.
Due to the outage, airlines lost access to check-in and booking services on computers, causing massive delays.
The outage is not only affecting airports; many banks, media outlets, and companies around the world are also impacted.
Airlines in Spokane are working to help affected customers with compensation as they begin to resume operations and help people get where they need to go.
