SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University students are raising their voices against the ongoing war in Gaza. Around 100 students walked out of class on Thursday, demanding the university cut ties with weapons manufacturers.
Organizers are specifically asking Gonzaga to withdraw from the Inland Northwest Consortium. This initiative, led by Gonzaga, aims to establish an aerospace tech hub in Airway Heights. It involves partnerships with major defense contractors, including Boeing.
The Seattle Times reported that Boeing is a significant supplier to the Israel Defense Forces.
Protests have erupted on campuses nationwide since the war began last year, with previous demonstrations at Gonzaga echoing the same demands as the recent protest.
In response, Gonzaga University released a statement emphasizing its Jesuit values.
“Our Jesuit values call upon us to seek justice, uphold the dignity of all persons and to build bridges of understanding that can lead to a more hopeful and peaceful future,” the statement said. “We therefore respect the right of students, faculty, staff and administrators to exercise their intellectual freedom in the pursuit of these ends.” the University said.
