SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga basketball team was on a plan that was nearly in a collision Friday.

The FAA reports that around 4:30 pm Friday, Dec. 27, air traffic controllers directed a charter flight, carrying the Gonzaga University’s men’s basketball team according to the Los Angeles Times, to hold as another aircraft took off from the same runway.

The jet then crossed the hold bars, and air traffic controllers told the pilots to stop. The jet never crossed the runway edge line.

Gonzaga University sent NonStop Local the following statement on the incident:

“We understand that the incident at LAX is under investigation and we will review this information as it becomes available. Our team members aboard the aircraft were unaware of the situation as it occurred and we are grateful that the incident ended safely for all.”

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
