Gonzaga University graduate receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

WASHINGTON – Gonzaga University graduate Father Greg Boyle, S.J. received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden.

Father Boyle was recognized for his work as founder of Homeboy Industries, a non-profit based in Los Angeles that provides wraparound services for former gang members and ex-felons.

The non-profit program provides them with life skills and jobs. The program has also helped provide thousands of jobs to people who have gone through the program.

In the White House’s statement, they called Homeboy Industries “the world’s largest gang intervention and rehabilitation program.

According to a White House statement, the Medal of Freedom is presented to “individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public, or private endeavors.

Boyle graduated from Gonzaga University in 1977 and regularly visits the Spokane campus.
