SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University names Dr. Katia Passerini as new President effective July 15.

Dr. Katia Passerini currently works at Seton Hall as the Provost and Senior Executive Vice President. She will succeed Thayne M. McCulloh, D.Phil who will step down in July prior to her arrival.

She was voted in unanimously by the board of trustees after the committee said she displayed her leadership capabilities impressively.

“With an impressive record of leadership progression, the Search Committee believes Dr. Passerini is uniquely positioned to build on Gonzaga’s legacy of excellence,” Board of Trustees chair Christy Larsen said.

She holds an extensive record in education holding degrees in political science (LUISS University, Italy), economics (University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy), MBA (1996) and Ph.D. (2001) degrees from The George Washington University, and a Certificate in Business Project Management from New York University.

Passerini is a lifelong Catholic and is a native of Italy. She will begin her journey in Spokane and at the University with her husband and three sons this summer.

“I am very excited to join the Gonzaga University family this coming summer,” said Passerini. “Gonzaga is clearly a very special place: a dynamic university with a national reputation for quality, dedicated to the holistic education of students”.
