SEATTLE, Wash. – David Schumacher, the director of the Washington Office of Financial Management and a former Boeing government affairs expert, was appointed to the University of Washington (UW) Board of Regents on Tuesday.
Schumacher was an undergraduate and graduate economics student at UW. He was with the Washington Department of Revenue before moving to the legislature as a staff director.
He then made a pivot to the private sector with The Boeing Company in the late 2000s. He was named the Director of the Office of Financial Management in 2013.
Schumacher underscored the importance of remaining globally competitive to UW’s academic identity.
“Once a Husky, always a Husky. I look forward to helping the University of Washington remain a top choice for students worldwide as a member of the board of regents,” Schumacher said.
Governor Jay Inslee (D) focused on the new trustee’s financial background when announcing the appointment.
“David brings a tremendous amount of talent and experience to the board of regents. His budgetary acumen and skillset as a manager will serve the university well,” Inslee said.
UW Board of Regents terms are six years. The board selects officers during their September meetings.
