OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee (D) thanked Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) staff for their work on Wednesday.

In a statement posted to social media, Inslee emphasized the importance of drivers remaining situationally aware in zones where WSDOT staff could be working.

“Road crews are spouses, parents and siblings – and all deserve to go home at the end of their shift,” Inslee said.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) offered additional information on road worker safety in a Thursday social media post.

“Since the start of 2024, seven WSDOT maintenance crew members in Southwest Washington have been sent to the hospital after being struck by drivers suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” WSP said.

Additional information on work zone safety can be found on WSDOT’s website.
