Grant County Coroner identifies man shot, killed by Quincy police officer

QUINCY, Wash. — The Grant County Coroner has released the identity of the man who was shot and killed by a Quincy police officer Monday night.

Jose Rico-Flores, 24, died on Jan. 8 after a police shooting at the Jackpot Food Mart in Quincy.

Quincy police officers responded to the location after receiving reports of a man with a knife. As they arrived on scene, Grant County Sheriff’s Office released that a Quincy officer was stabbed by Flores in the arm and shoulder.

Shots were fired at Flores and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer who was stabbed suffered non-life threatening injuries.

On Jan. 9, the Central Basin Investigative Team (CBIT) was assigned to conduct a use of force investigation into this incident. Quincy PD is no longer involved in this case and the rest of the investigation will be done by BCIT.

The Grant County Coroner has scheduled an autopsy for Jose Rico-Flores to determine his cause and manner of death.
