MATTAWA, Wash. – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) arrested two suspects who had stolen several cars and equipment.

On June 5, the owner of a stolen truck informed GCSO deputies that his truck had been stolen and provided deputies with the truck’s GPS coordinates, which indicated that it was located in the area of Lower Crab Creek Road.

Deputies located the stolen truck in that area and then spotted two men fleeing from a shed. One of the fleeing suspects was quickly detained by deputies while the other fled.

Grant County deputies stated they spoke to the owner of the shed and property. They informed deputies that the two suspects had shown up together the night before in a large truck towing a trailer carrying 1,000 gallons of fuel and 500 gallons of diesel. Deputies mentioned that both the trailer and fuel tank were stolen.

Deputies stated they conducted another search for the runaway suspect and later found him hiding under a tarp. According to deputies, the suspect then attempted to run away again but deputies were able to catch up with him after he tried to enter the stolen truck. Deputies successfully pulled him out and detained him.

Both suspects were booked and jailed at Grant County Jail. One suspect was suspected of theft of a motor vehicle, and the other of resisting arrest, obstructing a law enforcement officer, possessing a stolen vehicle, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Deputies continued their investigation and discovered a stolen Ford truck attached to a 500-gallon fuel tank trailer. The pickup’s bed was full of stolen property. According to GCSO deputies, all stolen vehicles, trailers, fuel tanks, and other property were returned to their owners except for the car hauler, whose VIN had been obscured, indicating it was likely stolen.

This investigation is ongoing, and Grant County deputies are urging anyone with information to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at 509-762-1160.
